With over 660 students enrolled at University, we are the largest elementary school in MCCSC. If you are new to UES or a returning parent but wanting to get more involved, it can be daunting to know where to start.
We have many opportunities available with different time commitments. No matter how much time you have, there is always something you can do to become an active member of the UES PTO.
First thing you can do is to read through all of the PTO papers found in the folder sent home at the Meet and Greet before the first day of school. By filling out those papers, the PTO knows you are interested in volunteer opportunities and we can let you know directly when and where we need help.
Secondly, join us during our first PTO meeting in August. We only meet once a month and childcare is provided during the meetings. Our PTO meetings are a great way to get to know other parents, teachers, and principals, and to learn about the school and our PTO programs.
If you don’t have time to volunteer or attend a PTO meeting, you can still be involved in ways that are simple.
Signing up for Kroger Community rewards is the easiest way to start. University receives a percentage of what our enrolled families spend at Kroger. We only have a portion of our families signed up but we receive approximately $4000-5000 a year based on those 100 families. If we could get all of our families to sign up for the rewards program, we could increase those yearly donations.
Collecting Boxtops from items you purchase on a regular basis and turning them in to your child’s teacher earns the PTO about $1000-2000 a year. Each month, the class with the most Boxtops earns an extra recess.
Attending Dining for Dollars nights with your family. Once a month a restaurant will donate a portion of the sales to our PTO. Going to Skate Night once a month (usually the last Tuesday of the month) will earn the PTO $1.25 per skater. Attending PTO sponsored events and purchasing tickets and food will help the PTO raise money for various programs.
